BIOGRAPHY

Rosalynn De Roos is a clarinetist, multi-instrumentalist and a collaborator in the Seattle, Washington area. As a clarinetist Ms. De Roos studied classical repertoire with David Krakauer at the Mannes College of Music and performed with the Mannes Symphony Orchestra. She later studied with Sean Osborne and Jovino Santos Neto at Cornish College of the Arts performing in small chamber ensembles and the Latin jazz big band. In May 2005 she completed her Bachelors of Music Degree in clarinet performance.

As multi-instrumentalist, Ms. De Roos performed in Ireland with the actress Gin Hammond; accompanying this dynamic one woman show called Syringa Tree—in
July 2007. The demands of this show required six different instruments including the djembe, ago go bells, mbria, shakers, western bells and clarinet. The music created a tapestry for the story to come alive. This compelling performance was a feature in the Clonmel Junction Festival. Her most recent work also includes a western Washington tour with BookIt Theater Company; performing an adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin’s book ‘The Wizard of Earth Sea’. Accompanying a cast of five actors, Ms. De Roos was the multiinstrumentalist performing with six different instruments and including musical styles from Africa, Yiddish songs, Brazilian choro and originals. Ms. De Roos also debuted as an actor/musician for children's musical called It's a Whatchamadoozie with a Whaddayacallit with a Thingamajigit on Top! Written by Ellen Cooper and directed by Laura Ferri.

As a collaborator, Ms. De Roos worked with a Butoh performers called P.A.N (Performance Art Network). This ensemble toured Asia inMay 2006 with a multimedia project comprised of live art, music, Butoh dance and a film called Crosspollination. Invited to compete at the Chuncheon International Mime Festival in South Korea, P.A.N. won the Dokkebi Award for new and experimental works. Later P.A.N traveled to Japan to complete the tour performing with internationally known guitarist ‘Dub Marronics’ and dancer Peter Golightly.

Projects spearheaded by Rosalynn De Roos include performance art piece called: A Suite in Three features original poetry, music and dance debuted for Arts Launch and ChoroLoco an acoustic ensemble that specializes in Brazilian music from the turn of last century. Past projects may include: The Yellow Hat Band an all brass/drum corps responsible for organizing Honk Fest West in Seattle and the Northwest Clarinet Choir a chamber ensemble of thirteen clarinets ranging from Eb soprano clarinet to Bb contrabass clarinet. Current projects include: performing with Tai Shan singer/songwriter and Underground Swing, an ensemble specializing in Gypsy jazz music.
